Participation of Kharkiv School of Architecture in the EAAE Deans’ Summit in Prague

On 16–17 April 2026, the Deans’ Summit of the European Association for Architectural Education (EAAE) took place in Prague and was hosted this year by the Faculty of Architecture at Czech Technical University in Prague. The central theme of the summit was “Back to Basics: Rethinking Curriculum through Making” — a discussion on how contemporary architectural education responds to changes within the profession, climate challenges, technological transformations, and new societal demands.

The summit programme focused on rethinking architectural education through the integration of theoretical courses, studio-based learning, and hands-on work with materials. Participants discussed the transformation of curricula, new pedagogical models, design-build formats, and how architecture schools can better connect education, research, and professional practice. The summit also included thematic sessions, roundtable discussions, and meetings between representatives of architectural institutions from across Europe.

Kharkiv School of Architecture was represented at the summit by the school’s President Oleg Drozdov, Rector Iryna Matsevko, and First Vice-Rector Dariia Ozhyhanova. Participation in the summit provided an opportunity to present the experience of Kharkiv School of Architecture in the context of full-scale war, exchange knowledge with European institutions, and contribute to discussions on the future of architectural education.

For KhSA, such international gatherings are an important platform for developing partnerships, expanding professional networks, and exploring new formats of collaboration in the fields of architectural education and research. Participation in the summit also creates opportunities to integrate Ukrainian experience into broader European discussions on the transformation of the architectural profession.
