Kochkaryov is Professor of the Department of Urban Construction and Civil Engineering, at the National University of Waterworks and Environmental Management, and a founder and head of the new research trend in the theory of reinforced concrete: a method of concrete calculated resistance. Calculation models for reinforced concrete structures stress-strain behaviour designed by Kochkaryov integrate the reinforcement resistance with the concrete resistance to generate the reinforced concrete resistance concept and to assess its strength and bearing capacity more accurately. These models simplify the calculations of building structures and use the fundamental concepts of material resistance science to take into account the redistribution of forces between the reinforcement and concrete, to calculate the concrete and reinforcement deformation at every stage of work under static loads, and to save on materials due to more effective reinforcement of cross sections. The research results are implemented in many objects built in Ukraine and are introduced into the academic process for students of civil engineering and architecture.
Kochkaryov is a fellow of the Academy of Construction of Ukraine, a panel member of the research council of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, a panel member of the Specialised Research Council for Doctoral Theses at the Poltava Kondratyuk National Polytechnic University and the Specialised Council for PhD Theses at the National University of Waterworks and Environmental Management.
Kochkaryov is an author of numerous research works and practical guidelines for project designers, and over 80 research articles, including 11 articles published in SCOPUS database.
