Herrmann is a co-founder of the architectural Outpost Office, USA. In 1966–2017, he was a student of Walter B. Sanders at A. Alfred Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning (A&AB).
He is a former visiting research officer at the Institute for Computational Design and Construction (ICD), the University of Stuttgart. As an architect, Herrmann worked at Gray Organschi Architecture, New Haven, CT, and Trahan Architects, LA, USA.
Besides other exhibitions, his works were exhibited at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, Yale School of Architecture and A+D Museum of Architecture and Design, Los Angeles, USA
