Spatial planning and land use researcher with a background in political science, urban design and urban studies. Currently serving as the Head of the Centre for Land and Housing Research at KhSA.
He is also heading New Housing Policy NGO (2022–present), a research initiative aimed at addressing Ukraine’s housing challenges by developing innovative approaches and advocating for sustainable and affordable housing. Annual symposium Rebuilding a Place to Call Home, organized by KhSA and New Housing Policy is a major international event bringing together researchers, practitioners and policy-makers to present and discuss latest findings and challenges in Ukraine’s Recovery.
Previously, Oleksandr worked as a Planner Specialist at the Office for Street Infrastructure at Lviv Municipal Council (2021–2022), contributing to street design and infrastructure management, while also supporting emergency responses to the Russian invasion.
In 2019, he founded the Understanding Soviet Podil NGO, a research initiative in Kyiv focused on rediscovering and critically analyzing Soviet-era urban and architectural strategies, with projects such as exhibitions and conferences on late socialist competitions in Kyiv under the project After Socialist Modernism. From 2018 to 2020, as an Urban Researcher with Agenty Zmin NGO, he led spatial and social research in Kyiv’s Podil district, collaborating with architects and city officials to implement integrated urban development policies grounded in evidence-based research.
