Smolenska is a lecturer with extensive academic experience focused on architectural monuments restoration. In 1977, she graduated from the Kharkiv Civil Engineering Institute, with a license in Architecture, Specialist’s Certificate No. 535 732. In 2017, Smolenska became Doctor of Architecture, specialization 18.00.01 Theory of Architecture, Architectural Monuments Restoration, DD006795, having presented a thesis “Architecture of Avant-Garde Modernism in Ukraine: Genesis and Legacy”.
In 1999, Smolenska was awarded the academic title of a reader of the Department of Architectural Project Design at the Kharkiv State University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, DC AE No. 001262. She has 34 years of research and academic experience and 44 years of professional experience. Since 2011, Smolenska is a member of the Ukrainian ICOMOS and Senior Architect of the Kharkiv Architectural Planning Directorate. Since 2018, she is also a panel member of the National Ukrainian Student Research Competition in architecture and urban planning.
