Summary of the subject:
The course “Tectonics/Architectural Structures” is a holistic structure that forms a chain of tasks (from simple to complex). The purpose of
of the discipline “Tectonics-1” is to study the relationship between architectural expression and the structural scheme of buildings and structures. Architectural structures are considered in the context of all the interacting, transforming and influential aspects determined by material, place and community.
The subject of the discipline is architectural objects as a combination of the physical component with the concept of the project, when disparate fragments and forms become integral and the design becomes an aesthetic category. It is a discipline
where techné is considered both as creation and construction, and as the acquisition of meaning by architectural structures.
Objectives of the discipline:
– Introduction to the system of architectural knowledge that combines the planes of typology, topology and tectonics;
– Formation of an understanding of the nature of the origin of building materials and its impact on architectural structures;
– Familiarization with the manifestations of the influence of socio-cultural factors on the acquisition of meaning by architectural structures;
– Mastering basic terminology and definitions;
– Formation of the ability to independently establish basic prerequisites, critical analysis and intensive research of the meaning of
architectural structures in the overall structure of the building;
– Familiarization with the use of different “optics” when studying the same object;
– Formation of the basic concepts of structural performance, modeling, calculation and reproduction in the building’s appearance;
– Familiarization with the historical approach and evolution of the architectural form of load-bearing elements of buildings and structures;
– Familiarization with the creation and use of physical models of structures.
The course is based on alternating lectures by a designer and an architect where the same details, structures and structures are considered in different planes (material and symbolic), which forms a holistic view of the nature of the object.
Final control: Credit.
